Vom Fass

Again, this week I have realized that I am literally surrounded by interesting food stores. On Wednesday, while waiting for the trolley near Szent István Park, we discovered this extremely interesting little shop just a corner away from us. We gazed at the many cans and barrels through the shop's glass window with admiration. I have decided that I'll definitely return and take a look around, because I have never seen anything like that before in Budapest.

The German expression "Vom Fass" means "from the barrel", which illustrates the most the content of this shop. Basically, anything that is considered oil, vinegar, or special alcoholic beverage can be found in this shop. The products are contained in small barrels, cans, amphoras, and flasks, but we can also see tiny glass phials and bottles twinkle on the shelves in which the precious liquids can be purchased.

"Vom Fass" has offers an immense selection of different oils and vinegars. Oils include cold-pressed oils as well as various types of seed-oils that can be used very diversely and have a great content in vitamins and are rich in amino acids. I believe that, especially today when fast food and deep fried food rules, the type oil you use and how you use it really do make a difference. This shop has oils that can be used for a variety of purposes: frying, deep frying, seasoning, steaming, and as a dressing. They can also be used externally on the skin as a treatment or massage oil, because all of them have beneficial effects due to their richness in vitamins. Just to mention  few examples, in this shop you can buy hazelnut oil, sesame oil, thistle oil, walnut oil, corn oil, peanut oil, grape seed oil, pumpkin seed oil, herb-garlic oil, rape seed oil, linseed oil, truffle oil, almond oil, and wheat germ oil. You can also find six types of extra virgin olive oil from different countries, including some special flavors like olive oil with lemon or garlic seasoning.

There is also a great variety of different vinegars at "Vom Fass". Wine vinegar curiosities include Sherry vinegar, Bordeaux red wine vinegar, and white wine vinegar made from champagne from the Ardennes. You can also find many types of balsamic vinegar, like the original balsamic vinegar from Modena, or many flavored vinaigrettes of Waldburg made with apple, raspberries, grapes, mango, red currant, and beer.

Apart from these precious liquids that can be used as the key ingredients of healthy dishes, "Vom Fass" also offers an overwhelming selection of alcoholic beverages. These drinks are all of the finest quality and can be purchased in greater quantities, as well. They sell many different liqueurs, cream liqueurs, grappas, brandys, whiskeys, wines, and famous Hungarian pálinkas. The store mentions on its website that all the products can be tasted before purchase to ensure the utmost satisfaction of customers. People can also find little ready-made bottle packages that can serve as nice presents to relatives or friends.

All in all, I think it's really worth to visit the shop of "Vom Fass" near Szent István Park, as it can introduce us to many delicacies we haven't even heard of before. With its wide selection and friendly environment this store definitely deserves an increase in popularity around the capital.
