à table!

If you are searching for quality French bread and pastry, or just want to eat a real croissant with a cup of coffee on a cold morning, then à table! is the right place for you! This charming artisan bakery for me has now become the king of all pastry shops in Budapest. And to make us gastro-geeks happier, à table! has just opened a new boulangerie- patisserie in the city center of Pest, in Arany János utca (which is, by the way, less than 5 minutes from Pomo D'Oro). Let us take a look at the amazing supply of à table!'s baked goods!

"All sorrows are less with bread" says Cervantes, and boy, he is right! When you enter this boulangerie, the first thing you see behind the counter is a bouquet of fresh and crunchy baguettes. Anthony Lecaude, the source of inspiration and legendary baker of à table! pays special attention to using the finest French ingredients; therefore, they ship nine types of flour directly from Normandy, according to their website. Apart from the various types of baguette, customers can also take home simple and sourdough bread or just pick one from the huge basket of croissants on the counter and enjoy a calm breakfast in a cozy atmosphere.

Life is sweet! Or at least it can be, if you drop in for an éclair au chocolat or white chocolate mousse in à table! The bakers and confectioners simply never run out of new ideas to make this field of gastronomy even more "adventurous" for us.  While sticking to the guideline of French baking tradition, this confectionary is also open to innovation and experimenting with new flavors, adding seasonal fruits and twisting ordinary French pastries into something extraordinary. I believe that à table! can be the cradle of many newly invented delicious cake, cookie, and pastry; because, personally, they charmed me with their raspberry mille-feuilles.

Finally, à table! not only offers pastry and confectionary products to customers, but also sells homemade jams, mustards, sauces, soups, and syrups directly from French manufacturers. These delicious goods can be turned into great ingredients for a French meal at home.

What I personally like the most in à table! in Retek utca is the friendly and welcoming atmosphere it creates. When you enter the shop and turn to the left you can watch the bakers through a tall glass window and follow the steps of their work. I think it is a wonderful idea to let the public peek into a real traditional French bakery, and see what's going on behind the scenes. On the right side of the shop there is a small and very comfortable room for those who wish to sit down and eat their meal in the shop. I would also like to call attention to the fact that this bakery is extremely popular and is packed with people every day. So, if you really want to see the great variety of goods it offers, you should visit before noon, because people pounce on the cakes very fast! All in all, I really recommend this bakery to all the lovers of French cuisine and urge everyone to try the wide range of delicacies it offers. À table, et bon appetite!
