Oriental Spice and Food Store

Honestly, this week I had less ideas than usual, firstly because of my disappointment with a Greek deli (which I will explain in a separate post), and secondly, because I really want to be concise with the content, so I want to stay on the East. On the other hand, I ran out of Eastern delis. Then, suddenly, my friend, Eszter started to tell me about this little Oriental food store in Buda, just a corner from Millenáris. What really drew my attention to this place is that regardless of its size, which is quite small compared to other food stores I have visited previously, it still has an offer just as good as any other. As I mentioned in previous posts, no matter how many food stores I visit, I simply never run out of ingredients yet to discover. Well, it wasn't any different this time.

Exotic India

This week we continue with Eastern flavors and fragrances by introducing ourselves to the diverse gastronomic universe of the country of spices: India. For this occasion I have visited the best Indian delicatessen shop in Budapest, Szép Kis India, which is located in the heart of the city, on Wesselényi Street. This store is truly a guard of original Indian tradition as it is managed by an Indian family. Now, this shop is really the one that a European fellow would definitely label "exotic", as Szép Kis India, with its colorful products and mouthwatering sights opens the world of Eastern cuisine to us.

Culinaris

This week we'll take a little break concerning specific international cuisine and we'll have an overview of what we have learned and what is yet to come. Naturally, I found the perfect shop for that occasion! Culinaris is located in the very heart of Budapest, in Balassi Bálint utca, a minute away from our beautiful Parliament building. The characteristic of this colorful food store is that it offers delicacies from almost every national cuisine. It can be very handy for a gastro-geek like me to find everything at the same place and not having to fish specific ingredients from different delis scattered around the city. Let us now get carried away with the diverse tastes of Culinaris!

Asia Shop

Yesterday afternoon I decided to accompany my aunt to the big market on Vámház körút and she mentioned that there was a superb Asian delicatessen shop right next door, so I peeked in. Wow! There is nothing (and when I say it, I literally mean NOTHING) you cannot find in this enormous food paradise! I found it especially amazing, as this was the first shop that I haven't visited before, which is strange, because I have walked around this place probably more than a thousand times. With this, I welcome you to the diverse culinary world of Asia, and even more!

England? Tea Time!

Afternoon tea is probably one of the most traditional parts of English culinary experience. This custom found its origins in the 17th century and it has been a defining element of "Englishness" since then. That is why I have decided to introduce one of my friends' blog which deals with tea in great detail as well as teahouses all around Budapest. Happy brewing everyone!

The British Store

This shop is nothing like any other stores we have been examining before on this blog. It is not that big, not so fancy, and yet, it still very much deserves to be mentioned as the key part of my English week. The British Store is located in the XIIIth district of Budapest, in Tátra utca 26, and opens the magic storehouse of British delicacies to us.
